Customer First: Why Real-World Testing Is Our Secret Weapon

Customer First: Why Real-World Testing Is Our Secret Weapon

At Bay Tek Entertainment, we believe that the best arcade games aren’t born in isolation. They’re refined through insight. Real-world testing doesn’t just make games more fun; it ensures they perform reliably, maximize operator revenue, and delight players for years.

Real-World Arcade Game Testing: From Hedgehog to Operator

Great arcade game design starts with player insight. At Bay Tek, we engage in multiple stages of game testing to ensure every product we launch delivers both fun and performance.

Hedgehog Testing (Internal Trials)

Our process begins with what we call Hedgehog Testing  a series of internal play sessions where Bay Tek employees from all departments try the game in a real-time, operational setting. During this phase:

  • We gather qualitative feedback and observe player behavior

  • Test various payout settings and game mechanics

  • Spot early usability challenges and game flow issues

These early insights help refine the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) before it ever hits the arcade floor.

Player Testing in the Wild

The next step is to test with the people who matter most: real arcade players. We place prototype units in selected partner arcades to gather first-hand feedback and performance data.

  • Our team conducts onsite observation of guest interactions

  • Players are interviewed post-play to gather their impressions and preferences

  • Operators provide feedback on footprint, ease of use, and guest response

This critical phase helps us identify how the game performs under real-world conditions, ensuring it’s intuitive, replayable, and fun for a diverse audience.

Remote Monitoring & Data Analytics

Modern arcade testing also includes a technological layer. Bay Tek uses an in-game tool that relays gameplay data back to us via cellular modem.

With this real time data, we:

  • Monitor gameplay statistics and performance metrics

  • Analyze win rates, payout scenarios, and dwell time

  • Adjust internal settings or menu ranges based on real usage patterns

This data-driven feedback loop allows us to fine-tune game performance and ensure that operators have the flexibility they need to maximize earnings.

Durability & Reliability Testing: Built to Withstand the Fun

We know that arcade games take a beating, especially in high-traffic family entertainment centers. That’s why we invest in extensive reliability and stress testing to ensure long-term durability.

Key Reliability Tests Include:

  • Lifecycle testing of high-use components such as buttons, motors, and sensors

  • Stress testing to simulate thousands of play sessions

  • EMC/Safety testing to ensure compliance with electrical and safety standards

For example, we run button and motor assemblies through over 1 million play cycles to ensure they can withstand years of high-volume use in family entertainment centers.

These efforts ensure our games are not only exciting to play but are also built to last and are easy to maintain.

Ship Testing: Protecting the Journey

Even the best arcade game won’t succeed if it arrives damaged. That’s why Bay Tek performs real-world ship testing as part of our final development stages.  Few arcade manufacturers go this far, but we see this as an important part of the customer experience. By testing freight conditions, we eliminate variables that could impact first impressions on the game floor.

  • We pack and ship actual product units under real-world freight conditions

  • Upon arrival, we inspect for transit-related damage

  • Learnings from these tests is used to improve packaging, bracing, and assembly techniques

By fine-tuning our shipping procedures, we ensure that every unit arrives in pristine condition ready to plug in and play.

Customer-Driven Results

Our reliance on a comprehensive testing process ensures that we bring to market games that are:

  • Tested & validated by real players and operators

  • Backed by gameplay data and remote insights

  • Designed for durability and reliability

When we say “Customer First,” we mean it. Every test, data point, and design iteration is about ensuring our operators and players have the best experience possible — reliable, rewarding, and ready to perform from day one.
